Republic Day 2022: On 73rd Republic Day Today, Many Firsts In Iconic Parade: 10 Points

To mark the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Ministry of Defence has planned a series of new events.

India celebrates its 73rd Republic Day today with the annual parade at Delhi’s Rajpath showcasing its military prowess and cultural pageantry. A flypast by 75 aircraft and helicopters is the highlight of this year’s parade.

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation this morning by tweeting, “Wishing you all a happy Republic Day. Jai Hind!”

  2. This year’s celebrations are significant because it is the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, being observed as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ across the country.

  3. The National Cadet Corps’ ‘Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman’ programme will be launched in this year’s celebration.

  4. Some 480 dancers selected through a nationwide dance competition will perform in the parade.

  5. Only double-vaccinated adults and single-dose vaccinated children of 15 and above will be allowed to attend the parade at Rajpath. Due to the pandemic, there will be no foreign contingent this year.

  6. The parade started at 10:30 am at Rajpath, half-an-hour later than usual for better visibility. Ahead of the event, PM Modi paid tribute to India’s fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.

  7. The parade started with a salute from President Ram Nath Kovind. The winners of the country’s highest gallantry awards, including Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra, led the contingents.

  8. The parade will feature six marching contingents from the Indian Army, 96 young sailors and four officers from the Naval contingent, and 96 airmen and four officers from the Air Force contingent.

  9. People have been asked to register on the MyGov portal to watch the live event online. They will also be able to vote for the best marching contingent and tableau in the popular choice category.

  10. For the ‘Beating Retreat’ ceremony at Vijay Chowk on January 29, a drone show with 1,000 indigenously manufactured drones has been planned.
